Show #18: Lebanon, MO

Cowan Civic Center
February 16, 2006

● February 15
Today was a travel day – no show, but we had many miles to cover. We made a stop at Starbuck’s on the way out of town. Driving through St. Louis, we got a lovely view of the Gateway Arch out the van windows.

Most of our lunch stops are as quick as we can make them, but since we were spending so much time in the car today, we took an entire, luxurious hour to eat. We arrived in Lebanon around 5:30, checked into our hotel (two nights in the same bed!), and enjoyed an evening off. A few went to see a movie, but I think that most of us spent a relaxing evening in our rooms. Besides, I had me some Olympics to watch!

Miles traveled: 406
Hotel: Holiday Inn Express

Piano du jour: A 7’ piano-shaped piece of furniture called a Samick

We have reached the halfway point in terms of days on the road.

When we arrived in Lebanon, temperatures were in the 60’s. But a major cold front came through today, and temps have dropped more than 30 degrees. I was feeling sorry for us until I heard that wind chills back home are -35°.

We arrived at the venue to find this prominently posted:

I guess we have to cut “Glitter and Be Gay” this evening.

So… a Samick? A what? Never heard of it. And after playing it, I wouldn't really call it a musical instrument... but it certainly is a nice shiny piece of furniture.
