Show #11: Three Lakes, WI
Three Lakes High School Auditorium
February 7, 2006
Piano du jour: 5’ Steinway, almost in tune
After a short drive, we arrived in Rhinelander and checked into our hotel. Since our next couple of venues are very close by, we’re going to be staying here for three nights! Woo-hoo!
We were to have originally played this evening in Eagle River. However, their auditorium had been torn down, so until the new one is completed, they are holding their concerts in the nearby town of Three Lakes. We had some tough competition this evening.
Immediately on the other side of the auditorium wall was the basketball gym, and there were two games going on during our concert. The occasional game buzzer could be heard over our music. Sheesh…
This was a very sad evening, for this was the final show for our dear Michelle. Her work at home only allowed her to be gone for two weeks, so we were bidding her a fond farewell.
Her final, stirring performance of “Shadowland” from The Lion King was particularly poignant…
“And where the journey may lead me
Let your prayers be my guide.
I cannot stay here, my family,
But I'll remember my pride.”
We had her farewell party back at the hotel pool. Jody bought an Oreo ice cream cake from Culver’s, while folks frolicked the pool and the hot tub.
We will miss you, Michelle!!
